Last month, I and two of my girlfriends did a quick 3-day trip to Nassau, Bahamas! I was craving for some girl time so it was a much-needed break. We flew from Houston to Nassau on the third week of January and the flight was an easy-peasy 2 and a half hours. What I’m sharing here is where we stayed, what we did, where we ate, and of course all the travel/beach outfits. You can check out my Instagram for the fun IGTV I created from this trip or if you want the detailed fit and looks of the outfits in this blog post in a video format, it’s saved under the highlight ‘Beach/Vacation Outfits on my Instagram.

Things to Consider on Your Bahamas Trip

  • U.S. Dollars is widely-used. Make sure to bring tons of $1 and $5 bills for tips.
  • Taxicabs are pretty safe. I suggest that you agree on a price first before getting in the cab. I had to ask the hotel concierge for average cab fare just for reference. As with any places when traveling, exercise common sense regarding safety.
  • English is the language. They speak really good English:)
  • Cars travel on the left side of the road.
  • Hold on to the Arrival Card after showing it at the Immigration counter upon arrival. You will use the same card upon departure(Departure Card).

Where We Stayed

We stayed on this beautiful oceanside resort for 2 nights and while the property is beautiful and clean, it could use some updating. I am not usually an all-inclusive type-traveller since I like to venture out and try local cuisines when traveling and I also like going where the locals eat but the all-inclusive set-up on this trip proved to be better on our budget since it also included not just the accommodation and meals but also all alcoholic drinks and cocktails. Melia Nassau Beach Resort sits in front of the beautiful Cable Beach and has seven restaurants on the property. It is advisable to make your reservation on the restaurant of your choice upon checking in as they fill up quick. You may also want to take a look at their weekly schedule as soon as you check-in so you can plan ahead on what the resort has to offer during your stay like Yoga, Aqua Fit, Crafts, Ping Pong Tournament, Karaoke, Movie Marathon to name a few. If I were to come back to the Bahamas with kids I would stay here again because of the all-inclusive option and the resort is kid-friendly and has tons of kid activities.

Nassau in 3 Days

Day 1

Beach: Cable Beach in front of our hotel is absolutely beautiful. The turquoise water ranges from different shades of blue throughout the day against the powdery white sand. It’s breathtaking! We enjoyed a nice stroll here for most part of the afternoon right after checking in and there’s even a pier at the other side of the resort.

Meals: We tried a couple of restaurants at The Melia Resort on our first night. First off was Estavida and they serve a wide variety of tapas, cocktail, and a great selection of wine. The soft lighting here makes for a soothing ambiance. Then we headed off to The Market Place and this one serves international buffet. Both restaurants were very good and you do not need reservation for either one of them.

Day 2

We ventured outside of our resort today.

Fort Fincastle: taxicab from our resort to this historic place is around $25. Love exploring the history of every place I travel to…it helps me learn about the people and their culture. Fort Fincastle also has a nice view of the ocean. Admission is $3.

The Queen’s Staircase: only a 5-minute walk from Fort Fincastle, this historic spot shouldn’t be missed. There are 66 steps and was named in honor of Queen Victoria ‘who had signed a declaration to abolish slavery’ in 1837.

The Bahamas Rum Cake Factory: need I say more?! Located in Downtown Nassau……if you likeRum Cake, this is your spot. You can try a variety of samples: my favorite are the Original, Banana, and Chocolate.

Meals – Two Brothers Restaurant: This is the only local restaurant we tried outside of our resort since we paid for an all-inclusive option. We had to try one of the local restaurants so here we are. Our cab driver recommended this place and to be honest it was just okay. I felt like it was overpriced for what you get. Conch is the region’s most famous food so we had to try it. I had the Conch Burger (I don’t recommend as it was really chewy), my friends had the Conch Ceviche (pretty good) and the Fish Fry which I thought was the best meal compared to the other two.

Aqua: Italian Restaurant located inside The Melia Resort; requires reservation. I had the Caesar Salad and Seafood Pasta followed by Tiramisu for dessert and they were all excellent! We ended the night with some cocktails back at Estavida (tapas restaurant inside the resort).

Day 3

Atlantis, Paradise Island: I took a cab from our resort to Paradise Island to see Atlantis. I have never been here before and it’s been on my bucket list. The ride took 20-25 mins depending on traffic and fare was between $25-$30. I bought my day-pass for the Atlantis at the Melia Resort and it was $44 and gives me access to all the aquariums, resort grounds including the beaches, restaurants, shopping, and casino. Access to Water Parks is extra $. Atlantis grounds is beautiful, so green, lush, and clean. This is a great family vacation destination and highly-recommend. My two-hour on the resort wasn’t enough to see all the aquariums and the beaches but it was a good taste of what the resort has to offer! Maybe someday I could go back here with Ricky and the kids.
