Fall is almost here and I’m so excited to share with you some family photo outfit ideas in this post as well as tips for a stress-free family photo session! My kids are now teenagers(Carson is 15, and Emily is 13) so it is much easier nowadays to do family photos compared to when they were little but I still get the eye roll both from Ricky and the kids every time I remind them about our annual professional family photos. Here are some of the photos taken by our photographer, Brittany Theiss Photography, last year. Our outfits are still available to shop except for Emily’s and my boots to which I have linked similar pairs. I chose light gray dresses for Emily and I for this session while Carson is wearing a checkered shirt with blues and greens in it and Ricky has a solid green colored shirt on. I love how this color scheme turned out. I also included another outfit inspiration in a collage in this post for another option.

Ricky’s Outfit(Dad): Shirt, Jeans, Shoes
My Outfit(Mom): Sweater Dress in small. This dress is made of chenille yarn so it is really soft and I love that you can tie the waist to make adjustments. I am 5’3 and the hem hits me about an inch above the knee. It comes in other colors. My knee boots are old but I am linking a pair here and here, but you can also wear a pair of booties just like this pair.
Carson’s Outfit(Boy Teenager): Carson was 14 y/o when these photos were taken. Shirt in XL; jeans in XL, and another affordable option for teenage jeans that he has been wearing recently is linked here. His shoes are linked here.
Emily’s Outfit(Girl Teenager): Emily was 12y/0 going on 22 in these pics:). Her dress is actually mine but I love that you can also tie the waist to make adjustments. It has waffle-like pattern and I really love that way it fits her. She is wearing it in XS and she is 5’1 here. Her booties are old but linking similar here and here.
Tips For A Stress-Free Family Picture
•Plan ahead. I give Ricky and the kids 3 outfit choices at least a month in advance of the photo shoot. That way I have enough time to put together outfits that coordinate (but not matchy-matchy). I want each person to be happy with their outfits instead of me forcing it on them. The happier everyone is, the better the smiles are on photo day.
•Talk to your kids about the photo session. Tell them what to expect and how fun the session can be.
•Arrive to the location at least 15 minutes early. This will give everyone ample time to be able to relax and settle down before the session start.
•Mini-session is your best friend. Our photo sessions last no more than 25 minutes.
•Don’t take it too seriously during the session. Have fun! Remember, this is about capturing family memories so you also want to snap candid shots with genuine smiles.
